Who knew a tiny postcard could pack such a punch of knowledge about Castillo de San Marcos? I'm seriously impressed by this discovery.

Castillo de San Marcos, constructed by the Spanish, was designed to safeguard St. Augustine against English expansion. As it stands, it is the oldest masonry fortification located in the United States.

Fun fact : St. Augustine is the oldest city in the USA.

St. Augustine, Florida, is generally regarded as the oldest city in the U.S.A. It is the oldest continuously inhabited European-established settlement in the country. St. Augustine was founded by a Spanish admiral named Pedro Menéndez de Avilés in 1565, and it was the capital of Spanish Florida for more than 200 years. (source: titlemax.com)
